Green Future March 20 offers family fun, grass roots engagement

Saturday March 20 12:00-3:00 at the Dahl
“Our Green Future” offers both family fun and serious grass roots engagement about Rapid City’s future. The event is free.
For kids: a puppet show with Sue Hey and Leonard Running, Mollie O Krafka and Heather Krafka Rederth reading their “green” children’s book, lots of “green” activities. Local high school students and Donna Robinson, Recycling Facilitator for the Rapid City Schools, plan displays and activities.
For adults: RC Green Task Force Panel present exhibits and the work of 8 subcommittees (Education, Water, Recycling, Energy, Land Use, Transportation, Local Food, and Natural Assets –parks, wildlife, etc) and take public input. Members of the task force are Roger Hall, Eirik Heikes, Suzanne Martley, Jessica Miller, Timothy Roach, Cynthia Matson, Aaron Sanders.
City Council members Aaron Costello and Patti Martinson will be available for listening and conversation. Mayor Hanks will attend.
The afternoon event concludes with a recycled art fashion show by Black Hills State University art students at 2:30 on the events center stage sponsored by Fierce Modeling Agency, Planet Hair, Black Hills State University and the Rapid City Arts Council.
Snacks, including cheese by Black Hills Milk and buffalo hors d'oeuvres by Jill Maguire of Wild Idea Buffalo Company, will be available.

Democracy in Action works for protection of clean, safe water. The proposed Pennington County Septic Ordinance (download draft here) will be discussed at a series of public meetings sponsored by Planning and Zoning. The ordinance establishes installer and installation guidelines plus septic inspection and registration every six years with a $20 permit to be filed with the county. Many counties in Nebraska, Wyoming and North Dakota have similar ordinances.
All six public meetings will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, March 16, 2010 – New Underwood City Hall
Thursday, March 18, 2010 – Wall Community Center+
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 – Johnson Siding Community Center
Thursday, March 25, 2010 – Hill City, City Hall
Monday, March 29, 2010 – Rapid City (location to be determined)
April 6, 2010 – Rockerville Community Center
