Our actions demonstrate support for the values that drive Democracy in Action.

DIA morning meetings offer conversation with either Darrel Shoemaker of Sen Johnson's office, Qusi Al-Haj of Sen Thune's office or Kate Kelley of Rep. Herseth Sandlin's office. Watch for announcements/action alerts for  DIA-sponsored activities on education, women's health and environment.

Democracy in Action works for protection of clean, safe water.

Many counties in Nebraska, Wyoming and North Dakota have similar ordinances.

All six public meetings will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

•"I urge you to grant citizens like me the freedom, as a home owners in Pennington County, to have an ordinance that allows us to pay a small fee for certification (upon an appropriately scheduled inspection) that our septic systems are safe for us and for our neighbors here in rural Pennington County and in the urban water galleries supplying Rapid City."

DIA hosted a pre-election forum for School Board Area 1 & Area 2 Candidates Wednesday, May 27, 2009.  Here are DIA's questions. Learn more at Our Rapid City Schools website.

Area One:
Congratulations to Suzan Nolan.
Suzan, we appreciate your hard work, your tireless campaigning and your progressive and innovative ideas, which the voters clearly responded to.  We know you will help focus the efforts of Rapid City’s school board for the next three years on the most important issues in our schools.
Area Two:
Congratulations, Sheryl Kirkeby.

DIA-RC, in cooperation with The Journey Museum and other sponsors, hosted a public Greening Rapid City Forum at the Journey Museum on May 3. Public Works Director Robert Ellis, Growth Management Director Marcia Elkins and council members Aaron Costello, Karen Gunderson Olson, and Patti Martinson presented findings from the Green Cities Conference in Portland that they attended in mid-April. Displays by local "green" and recycling businesses and non-profits offered lots of re-use recycle information. All participants received Recycling in Rapid City-2009 edition.

DIA hosted T.R.A.S.H. on Friday, Feb. 20, in John T. Vucurevich Event Center at the Dahl Arts Center. The benefit performance by T.R.A.S.H was DIA’s principal annual fund raiser.

DIA has real “trash” on its agenda in 2009 with promoting recycling and sponsoring community education about solid waste issues as a major objective. The 2009 edition of Recycling in Rapid City: How, What & Where, an SDDIA-RC publication was distributed at the benefit.
