The 2012 RC Chamber of Commerce Crackerbarrels will be held on January 21, February 4, February 11, February 25.

Crackerbarrels are held on several Saturdays during the session from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the South Dakota School of Mines New Classroom Building. Crackerbarrels are free and open to the public.

SDDIA supports Recycle-Re-use

We advocate responsible environmental stewardship and our Position Statement on the Environment “supports mandatory recycling by residential, commercial, industrial and government entities.” Read the letter we sent July 2, 2009 to Public Works Director Robert Ellis, The Mayor and City council Members.

  • Informing others through public forums, debates and discussions 
  • Partnering with other progressive groups and individuals inside and outside our state.  SD Democracy in Action is a sister organization with Gather the Women: women's organizations who share a belief that the time is now to activate the power of women's wisdom.

Action 

After sponsoring a forum for mayoral candidates, SDDIA/Rapid City endorsed incumbent Mayor Alan Hanks in the June 28 run-off election. DIA's endorsement lists specific reasons including Hanks' reinstatement of the Human Relation's Commission, support of the Green Cities Task Force, Homeless Coalition, Billboard ballot issue, and his expression of a long-term vision for Rapid City.

    • Citizen Lobbying of local, state and federal lawmakers
    • Citizen activism demonstrated by attending crackerbarrels, legislative sessions, council meetings and more
    • Issues-related actions such as demonstrations, protests, marches and vigils
    • Writing letters to the editor and participating in other writing campaigns
    • Celebrating events that reflect our values: Earth Day, Women's Equality Day and Women Working for Women Reception.
